Having shared a dorm room with a Navy Seal for 8 months while in San Diego during electronics school and listening to the "stories" that he had..........nothing totally prepares you for an actual standoff when live weapons are being pointed at you. That is coming from a 18 year E7 Seal so I will take his word for it.

No one said otherwise. :)

Sorry to argue, but there have been many tests done that show shotgun rounds (buck shot, even bird shot) will travel through many walls. Hollowpoint Pistol rounds generally won't due to disspating more energy mushrooming out.

If you can find them, I'd love to read them. :)

here's one of the references I could find :)

EDIT: Re-reading the articles, I got it backwards. The Shotgun does penetrate less, but not by a whole lot.

9 boards vs 7 boards.

So now some of you guys have trained with live ammo in a closed building situation?

You are some bad assed mofos!!!!!

I used to have bb gun fights sometimes....freaking hurt

They have "tactical" ranges you can do to and practice stuff like this.

BUt you know ultimately what will not happen to you, like getting a slug in the ass

I hear ya and have both pistol and rifle sharp shooter medals from the Navy but I honestly do no know what my reactions would be in an actual situation.

I do have a plan which everyone imo should have and I know that nobody is going to hurt my family if me and Vixen can help it.

I will take that word as well. We have a guy at work I have gotten to know quite well. He was a Seal. He told me some of the stories about their training. I think I would wet myself... did your roomie ever tell you about the "simulated" drowning they go through?

Truth is, nothing can ultimately prepare you for the situation. However, like I said above...Any advantage is a good advantage. Just because you can't control your fear/adrenaline in a SHTF situation doesn't mean you shouldn't train for it.

We spoke about BUDS and hell week when they are trying to crack you mentally due to the lack of sleep, never about drowning. He did tell me about their other training, they take medical courses to show the best way to harm others in a fight and assasination 101 :scared:

Took me to a bar outside of Corinado island once and 3 bikers I guess were looking for their rite of passage.........quickest 5 second scape I had ever seen

I think the Springfield rounds were FMJ  Either that or the 50 cal was and the 50 cal slug just erupted when it hit the water.

Simulated drowning is done when they're in the pool. Instructors will rip off all their gear and they have to put it back on again.

You can learn to put both the fear and adrenaline to work for you though. That takes a bit of work too though...lol

FMJ is a type of bullet, just like a HP (hollow point). You can get various rounds in various types. To say a "Springfield" only accepts FMJ rounds is kinda false. BTW, when you say "Springfield" I assume you mean the M1 Garand?

There is a diving tower in Key West where they do that, caught a 40 pound Tarpoon right by it :D

I was talking more about where your hands and feet are bound and you're dropped off in the ocean to "swim" or drown. They don't leave you but stay close by. If you "drown" they pull you out revive you and throw you back in again.

They also teach you to swim with both your hands and feet tied, yes. My dad was actually going to go into the SEALs, but wasn't allowed in after he had his motorcycle accident.
