Those were also rifle rounds, they move slightly faster than an average pistol round ;)

About double, I think... :)

Water is a great stopper though - no doubt about it.

Just I wouldn't want to go swimming and have someone shoot at my to try it out.

Simulated drowning is done when they're in the pool. Instructors will rip off all their gear and they have to put it back on again.

I was talking more about where your hands and feet are bound and you're dropped off in the ocean to "swim" or drown. They don't leave you but stay close by. If you "drown" they pull you out revive you and throw you back in again.

They also teach you to swim with both your hands and feet tied, yes. My dad was actually going to go into the SEALs, but wasn't allowed in after he had his motorcycle accident.

Your father is a tough man then. Far tougher than I. ANY Special
Forces member is a different breed of person. I know that from
experience with them...lol

LMAO!!!!

"Liz........when I dive under water shoot at me with the crosssman 760 so I can prove those dicks Code and Digi wrong!!!!!!"

I'd be down with that.

Nearly zero mass, hell it'd probably go in maybe an inch or two.

I think I mistyped when I said that. He was accepted to go into BUD/S training. That doesn't mean he was an actual SEAL.  Sorry about that! However, I got a lot of my information on the type of training and whatnot from him.

They dont bother me at all, plus the fishing is too good.

If I liked fishing, boating, and the beach, I think I'd love it there. However, I prefer staying inside and typing on the computer, as well as practicing playing guitar. I used to go down there every year, but we stopped when I started protesting against it since it was so boring to me. The water is amazing there, however. Clearest and cleanest water you'll see in the entire US.

Today you can go into the recruiters office and say you want to be a Seal as long as you do not have flat feet and 20/20 vision. During bootcamp you have about 8 weeks to prepare for the test which is something like this.......

500 yard breststroke, forgot the time

2:00 rest

60 push-ups

2:00 rest

80 sit-ups

2:00 rest

20 pull-ups palms out

2:00 rest

1 1/2 mile run in combat boots in under 9:30

My bootcamp company had 18 guys that went in for SEAL and 1 made it, this nut job from Texas named Dean.

Funny stuff! You sound like me "at times".

I say, lets crank the A/C, fix a sandwich and grab a nap.

The 9mm P226 is my all time favorite handgun!

The Sig Sauer 226 .40 cal. is a FINE handgun.
I can't think of one that could actually outperform it.

Glock makes a very reliable .40 cal as well. I just
personally don't think it performs as well as the
Sig.

You have refined tastes in handguns then!
I LOVE that gun. I do also like the Glock but the Sig
just outperforms it... The Sig has more parts than
the Glock though...lol

I prefer different handguns for different situations. There's no denying how indestructible Glocks are. However, I feel they're too slide heavy and really, REALLY dislike the sights. Sigs are great guns, but my favorite handguns are H&Ks. They fit me the best and I love the ergonomics of the entire thing.

Nothing wrong with an H&K either. They make a great gun.

I had a jones for a large caliber handgun a few years back
and bought a Desert Eagle .50cal. Believe it or not, I actually
like that guy quite a bit for what it is.

If you like the 92, then I would recomend the 96Fs. It's the same gun in .40. I would go with the .40 over the 9mm. Glock also makes several nice guns in .40.

Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase a handgun for myself and my fiance to shoot, both at the range and for home defense. We've both shot 9mm berettas (basically m92f), and I'm looking at 9mm, 10mm, or .40 for stopping power as well as penetration, plus I want her to still be able to shoot it. Am I looking at the right calibers first of all, and secondly, any recommendations for firearms in those calibers? Thanks!

Jeff

There is no such thing as "stopping power", and you don't want a gun that has high penetration. That being said, I like .40. I've owned pretty much every caliber, and the .40 to me is a nice compromise between a 9 (which I'm not too fond of) and a .45 (grips are too big IMO). My favorite is a Sig P229, but it's double/single action which means you have to decock between firing. H&K is the same deal as the Sig, and I've owned one of those as well. I've seen more people than I can count "accidently" pull off a second shot (usually towards the sky) when the action becomes single. For the average person, a Glock 23 is nice. I actually have one of these ATM. It's their mid size .40 and it's a no brainer to use, and it shoots good. The Baretta has too many buttons/levers on it for me. If you're REALLY thinking about for home safety, you want something you can shoot without thinking (because you won't be). In order of personal preference for me it would be Sig then a toss up between H&K and Glock. In order of ease of use it would be Glock, Sig, then H&K but not by much in either case. Having said that a 12 gauge pump anything is the best choice IMO. ;)

There is no such thing as "stopping power"

Not a true statement. Wound ballistics are a complex issue. There is temporary cavitation and permanent cavitation as well as thousands of rounds and loads that would have to be tested in order to make a determination as to effectiveness of any given caliber BUT there has been testing done on animals to determine how many seconds different loads and caliber take to disable that animal and thats where the term "stopping power" has credibility. Real world shootings as well as actual combat/law enforcment records prove there are BIG differences in the way different rounds effect the body. I will stick with my 45  BUT caliber is not as important as is the shooters ability to accuratly fire his/her weapon under duress and stressful situations. Its a whole different ballgame when someone is threatening you/shooting back as it is to punch holes in paper targets at the range. ..............John
