How the hell do you choke that out??!!

LOL   Choking out is NOT my method of choice BUT I am MUCH more scared of the fighters in the UFC and they get choked out all the time  I will leave the choking out to the martial arts guys and just stick to general mayhem if this ever happens to me again :D

Oh ya, don't get me wrong, I don't advocate fighting these animals AT ALL... BUT, in a survival situation, unless you're my old Martial arts instructor who killed a 1000 lb Ox, by punching it once in the head, (NOT too likely, most would possess that kind of skill) SO, I much prefer the choke as MY means of quickly eliminating that kind of threat, IF all you have is your bare hands.

Update: Goldie is doing absolutly incredable. The vet originally said there would most likely be some nerve damage to her right leg but she is not even limping  She did rip out some stiches on Sunday but that was an easy fix. We got VERY damn lucky here and I wanted to again thank all of you for your well wishes. You guys rock!!!!.John

First requirement is 2 "Normal sized" arms. I am 5'8 and weigh 186 lbs and am not a big guy compared to Kage, for instance, but am compact like a Pit Bull.

Method I used was a rear naked choke w/ my legs hooked around the dog's stomach while laying on my back, and it worked VERY effectively, rendering the dog unconscience in about 6 seconds. The dog has only one primary weapon and that is it's mouth, which was not locked on me, Thank God.

It's a dog brother, NOT a Grizzly bear ;) - and a full grown man can lock in a choke around an animal that sizes' neck, assuming they (the man) have 2 normal sized arms and the know how, intensity and a will to survive or protect another.

The problem you're going to have choking that dog are 1) getting its back. That dog is going to out maneuver you and I with ease so getting its back without the dog twisting/turning and doing a number on your face or even worse, get a hold of your neck and tear a carotid artery which would likely kill you and 2) You can't get hooks in to control the dogs body so unless you're very lucky, get the dogs back and clamp a figure 4 immediately, the dog could use its body for leverage and twist back and forth, potentially bringing you back to problem #1.

You're right about the choke though, it's not about strength, it's a matter of stopping the blood to the brain.

I somehow missed this. What kind of dog was big enough that you could get hooks in? With all due respect Zach, unless it's a very large dog, I'm not seeing how you're going to control the dog with the hooks because with the dogs head in front of yours for the choke, the average pitbull is only going to extend somewhere near your waist. Even if you can get your feet up there, the diameter of the dog is so small that I'm not understanding how you can control the dogs hips.

Man that dog is freaking jacked up!

No thanks on tangling with that weapon.

Same here. While I'm confident that in the end, I'd win, I'm also confident that the dog would jack me up something fierce in the process.

Bob, c'mon man... All you need is a CAN-DO attitude and you'll choke that mother out in no time!!!

Exactly, humans will always have the advantage in fights with animals of equal size IF they in fact FIGHT smart and furiously.

I think somebody needs to inform the orangutans of this.

BTW: I'm glad your dog's going to be O.K. John. That situation totally stinks...

Heck, a full grown Chimp with his feet braced can dead pull over 800 pounds I believe unless I am confusing this fact with another primate. I did one of those black bear matches once in Maine when I was in shape and of stupid age.......got my ass handed to me in about 10 seconds and paid for the beating

10 seconds? It sounds like the bear was slacking off or something. ;)

I did my best Ali impersonation of floating for about 5 seconds, first attempt at sting was my downwall.

So the bear got pissed when you started singing Sting tunes? I can believe it...

Man, all of this talk about choking out a Pit Bull seems pretty scary to me. I used to work with a guy that got attacked by a Doberman. The Doberman broke free of the chain holding him sunk his teeth into the guys upper thigh and just ripped a huge chunk of flesh right down and off of the guy's leg and then took off. The guy ended up getting 162 stitches down his leg and has a very nasty looking scar/gouge...he won't come near an aggressive dog...chain or no!!!   I'd hate to think what would have happened if the dog had come back for more.
