Hello, this is my first post on here. Not sure if I can stop Reverb from getting funds out of my bank. I sold a guitar that was owned by well known Metal guitarist. I bought a VIP ticket and met the owner to confirm he owned and played on tour. He looked at it and said yes. I had him to date and sign the back of the neck along with a letter he signed as well. The buyer claimed he received it damaged. He waited over 19 hours after messaging me before before providing pictures of damage of a 5 way bent toggle switch and 3 bent knobs. He said it would be the next day before he could take pictures, but he sure had time to send a long message. Buyer claims for full refund but said there was no damage to box and refused to show pictures of the box. UPS wanted a picture of the box and original shipping label. Reverb's "resolution specialist" ask me for original shipping label. I told him I had it put on shipping box and that is how it was shipped. It takes 2 days ground delivery and they paid second day air to ship it back. Scheduled to arrive to me Tuesday the 21st. I had insured it via UPS for $3,000. Here is why I should not had sold it to the buyer. He first asked if could ship it back if the guitar did not feel comfortable and he would pay 10% restocking fee. That should had been a red flag. I can see small particles that looked to be metal and the 2 screws at the toggle switch now have wair from a srcew-driver. There is much more BS from the resolution specialist and buyer. If I cancel my bank account can Reverb still recover funds from my bank? I have been around guitars since 1981 and know this guitar was in mint condition to say the least. Not the case but guitar as I described and showed pictures. The buyer sent Reverb pictures of different shipping box but no picture of the guitar to email me and the pictures are compressed so you can not enlarge them without seeing nothing a blur. I am just mad. I really think he change out parts or I am going to receive a different guitar. Sorry for such a long message. Thanks

That’s a hell of an intro to RT. Sorry for ss. This is why I hate selling anything.. ever. Having said that; your shituation might be a bad card hand that you have been dealt and sadly reverb will probably play you out. I have heard of this scam before. Buy something. Steal the needed parts. Put damaged parts on it then claim it was damaged. Idk. Not sure how to prove this.

Yep, this is a common scam.

As of right now reverb has no recourse whatsoever, and in fact, they even back the scammers.

This is why most of us prefer to buy and sell on forums like RT.

Welcome QK and sorry to hear about this.

You'll be able to buy and sell here so all is not lost mate.

Sorry this happened, and I know your brain is going a mile a minute here but try to take a breather and wait until it arrives. Spamming messages to Reverb support when they & you are still just speculating about the condition of the parts etc is a worthless endeavor that just frustrates everyone. There's nothing you can do until it shows up and you open the box. Then document it with photos immediately upon arrival, with concise and clear pictures. Show detail of any damage. Doesn't have to be pro quality, but well lit and with any modern smartphone camera you can get very close. If you have to shine a flashlight on parts while you take the pictures.

Present the evidence clearly to Reverb and show any replaced parts or new damage. Obviously it helps if you have photos of the guitar BEFORE you sent it out. The return policy is that the guitar must return in the same condition that it was sent in, replaced or missing parts are NOT the same condition and you can increase your restocking fee to compensate for that. DO NOT cancel your bank account or something stupid that will get you red flagged and banned from the platform, behavior like that makes it look like YOU are the scammer. Who sells something and then quickly cancels a bank account? Scammers. Instead, your buyer also has a bank/payment method tied to their reverb account, so leverage Reverb to charge them for the amount of damage caused. Stay legit and it's easy. Don't use shady tactics like trying to close bank accounts or sending angry/urgent messages to support, which makes them think you are in the wrong.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen but I've avoided being scammed on Reverb because I photograph everything, including pictures of the guitar as I'm packing it up and putting it in the box, and I keep the receipt I get from UPS when I drop it off until it is past the return period.

These scammers are targeting specifically older people, who don't document things, take bad pictures, and don't understand the systems well. That's how they are able to pull of scams like this. The key is to be very clear about documenting anything going out, and anything coming back in, with photographic evidence, as if it's going to be a court case. I know it sucks, but it's just what you have to do when selling on the "open internet"

And don't take this the wrong way, fellow RTers, but I do the same thing when I sell or buy something here on RT. It's not that I don't trust you personally, it's that I don't trust anyone when it comes to this stuff.

You'll have to go to your bank and stop/block any transactions regarding Reverb. Reverb will then put a negative balance on your Reverb account and suspend you. They may go after you in collections, but I'm not sure. I had a situation, where I sold a Marshall combo, and the owner said it was damaged yada yada yada, and took pics but did NOT take pics of the serial #. The buyer sent it back to me, and as soon as I got it I realized his game. He returned the WRONG combo, with a completely different serial # and it indeed was beat to shit. So I immediately went to my bank and stopped Reverb from accessing my account. I sent pics of both amps, and what the scammer did but they first required me to un freeze Reverb from my account. I disagreed. So I went on without using Reverb. F them. Eventually they sent me a message saying they agreed with me but I was done with them. So obvious yet they were so one sided with the buyer. Just ridiculous.

That sucks dude. Reverb has gone to complete shit and is full of scammers.

This recent round I've decided anyone with a foreign name gets the order cancelled. Sorry not sorry. I also google every address of the buyer first.

I've had to cancel 3 orders in the last couple of weeks due to this. One address was a shipping/logistics company with horrible reviews on google and ive had 2 other buyers where the name on their profile didnt match shipping name....It's best when they message first so you can see their feedback history.

One big issue to me with reverb is the only way you can see feedback is if they message you. If someone buys the item you are unable to see their profile......unless I'm just an idiot and missing it of course.....huge flaw with reverb for me.

Anyway yeah, I'm probably done with that place as well once i sell these last couple of items and hope someone here or someone local buys instead

Thanks... Yeah, I hate you had to cancel many orders. Absolutely, I look up their name when they have a UPS Shipping store to receive the guitar. I can not find him on social media. Possibly a good reason but I know it is hear-say. Thanks again.

I have an Irish last name, you going to cancel mine? I mean, assuming you live in the US, it's pretty damn common for people to have "foreign" names.

This place is so funny sometimes. You guys will bitch about a buyer acting shady, in full support of this guy cancelling his bank account. Then two weeks from now there will be a thread where you bitch about a seller acting shady, because they cancelled their bank account and wouldn't accept a return. Then say oh, selling on the forum is the way to go, as if the same people (buyer and seller) couldn't possibly be members here too lol.

---
So @ OP, you have the guitar back by now, how did this pan out? Were there damaged or stolen parts or anything?

(no reply after over 2 weeks, big surprise lol)
