A cop knows the risks, and accepts them for what they want to do. They don't all have to be on the streets. Even with that, giving a cop the excuse about their job being rough is the same as a hooters girl sueing her employer because she feels sexually harassed by the customers.

Yeah, except hooters girls don't get shot at, or have people try to ram them with a car, etc. That's a big damn difference. Maybe that would stress you out, regardless of whether you liked/wanted that job or not. For example, I like flying, I dislike when people shoot at me while I'm flying, it stresses me out sometimes, sometimes I then act like an asshole. Perhaps they tire of pricks acting like its not a big thing blowing through school zones at 70 mph. Perhaps more than like the job they want to make some kind of difference, or make things safer for their family, and feel the need to do their job regardless of stress. Bottom line, they're human too, so I'm not sure why they aren't supposed to make mistakes in higher-stakes situations.

Same stroke, how often does a cop get shot at or someone attempts to run them over with a car, compared to a hooters girl getting fondled or whatever (same with strippers)

Mistakes are understandable, but some cops are dicks to everyone and think that's just how it should be. It's not a mistake for them, it's a way of life.

Then your opinion doesn't matter.

I read it the first time. Im not reading it again.

And your post was an opinion, So yours must
not matter much either. Since thats the case
dont fucking post about shit anymore?
If you didnt want opinions why post.

You act like a cop has to come up to you and kiss your ass
before you comply. Sorry thats just not how it works.
Looking for opinions that are informed not pulled out of your ass.

I already stated twice that if I've fucked up and gotten caught I take my medicine and I shut the fuck up. How is that needing a cop to kiss my ass?
I was just saying it sounded like that from your respect is earned so is disrespect thing.

Whatever.

Hey the ultimate irony is when your in Gen Pop in jail, And your watching COPS

All I have to say is: If you're bashing cops, shut the fuck up. Are you a cop? Do you know what they go through on a day-to-day basis? I do. In fact, I'm going to be taking my physical for just that very soon. Runs in my family, being a cop, and I'm around it.

Look, being a cop is not fucking easy. You see a few bad apples and you want to throw away the bunch? Well ok, you don't like cops, so you should be thrown in jail with the gang bangers and shitty people like that who don't like cops. You know what? FUCK YOU if you don't like them. Go to fucking Cuba or China, or Korea. Bet you'll love the cops here real fucking fast. Ignorance is a killer, try reading. Try talking to a cop. Ask them what they do day-to-day. I know my uncle never got over killing some one. He came from 'Nam and went right into the Chicago Police force. A hard guy. Never got ever it, never got over seeing people dead on the sidewalk, or their heads gone from a suicide or shootout. Get over yourselves you holier-then-thou pieces of shit. You don't want to deal with cops? Then don't fuck up. It's pretty goddamn simple.

  :bash:

My sister is currently dating a cop that doesn't know when NOT to be a cop (does some stupid stuff like threaten her with arrest when they both are drunk and argue, but, that's only the bad stuff, she talks highly of him when they aren't drinking...).

She has also dated other cops. Many family friends were/are (no longer around them) cops. My step-mother was a reserve calvary deputy. I have a neighbor who was a cop.

I know cops, I know what it takes to be a cop, and I know what they go through every day.

My point: Good cops don't make the same kinds of mistakes bad cops do. Good cops keep a level head, and look to resolve the issue, bad cops look for a fight or a way to impose themselves on someone else...

with an attitude like that being a police officer might not be your best career of choice. Respect goes both ways...not a one way street.

now before you fly off the handle and bash me for my opinion read my posts...I have nothing against the police and for the most part they are good folks...I dont stereotype all cops based on one known bad cop

Attitude I can have. Nowhere does it say I cannot. It is only when I bring that to what I do that it becomes a problem. That goes with everything. I can be pissed off all day, but I do not let it effect my job or the people around me. If I speak my mind and I'm a bit ticked off, then so be it. Others seem to be able to do that, but of course, it does not go both ways, eh?

if you can function properly and not let your state of mind at the time affect your judgment then that's a good thing. I do get pissed frequently but I just choose not to be an asshole towards people and calling them childish names only because one is pissed off and they have a different viewpoint than you...yes it does go both ways...how you deal with is another thing

It's not that those cops are dicks to everyone, it's just that all cops are dicks to you.

Some day you might figure out why.

If you figure out why all cops are dicks to you then you can decide if you want to correct your actions and attitude so that cops stop being dicks to you, or if you want to continue on with cops being dicks to you.

This is one of those "if I have to explain you wouldn't understand" situations. I predict you're not going to like hearing that.

Ok, how many people that you work with, or have you worked with, particularly bosses, that are dicks just to be dicks? It's a cross section of life. It's not isolated to any profession...however, I contend people are hyper sensetive because cops are essentially trouble-shooting people...telling you exactly what you're doing thats fucked up, and then charging you money for it, and then they don't put up with your attitude when you talk massive ammounts of shit. By you I don't mean you personally of course, just whichever "you" happens to be bitching about your ticket. Again, I'm not saying problems don't happen, or dicks aren't there, I am however saying people are always eager to make things other people's fault.

And I'm not sure where you're going with the hooters analogy...sure, it's almost to be expected with their territory, but that doesn't mean they like it or are supposed to tolerate it, just to expect and be prepared for it. Then call the bouncer.

Officer in trouble over motorist's video in South County
By Patrick M. O'Connell and Georgina Gustin
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
09/11/2007

ST. GEORGE — A car-mounted video camera — more commonly used by police than against them — captured a loud and threatening confrontation in this tiny St. Louis County community that left an officer on suspension and the whole world able to listen in.

The picture doesn't show much, but the audio part of the recording, posted on Google Video and YouTube on the Internet, brought more than 300 protest calls to St. George Police Chief Scott Uhrig.

"I was very displeased when I saw the actions on the video," Uhrig said. "My officers are not trained and taught to act like that."

He put Sgt. James Kuehnlein on unpaid suspension pending further investigation.

Uhrig said the officer's actions were not justified, and he insisted the episode is not representative of his department.

A voice identified as Kuehnlein's can be heard taunting the driver and threatening to jail him on fabricated charges.

The tape, made late last week, was from a camera running in the vehicle Kuehnlein approached, police said.

Brett Darrow, 20, of St. Louis, said he was the driver who recorded the exchange. He posted it online Saturday.

"I wanted everybody to see that this kind of stuff does happen," Darrow said. "I thought if I just go to the chief or whatever, it would just get swept under the rug."

Kuehnlein could not be reached for comment Monday night.

St. George, a municipality of about 1,300, sits along Interstate 55 at Reavis Barracks Road.

In the video, Kuehnlein, a St. George officer for about two years, approaches a young man who was sitting in a parked car about 2 a.m. in a commuter lot near Spokane and Reavis Barracks roads. Kuehnlein asks for identification. When Darrow asks whether he did anything wrong, the officer orders him out of the car and begins shouting.

"You want to try me? You want to try me tonight? You think you have a bad night? I will ruin your night. … Do you want to try me tonight, young boy?"

Darrow says no.

"Do you want to go to jail for some (expletive) reason I come up with?" the police officer says. Later, Darrow says, "I don't want any problems, officer."

"You're about to get it," Kuehnlein is heard saying. "You already started your (expletive) problems with your attitude."

After the officer notices the camera, he says, "I don't really care about your cameras, 'cause I'm about ready to tow your car, then we can tear 'em all apart."

After more than 10 minutes of interaction, Darrow is allowed to go.

Darrow said he was not trying to entrap the officer. He said he pulled into the commuter lot to meet a friend. When the officer asked him for identification, Darrow said he didn't immediately present it because he believes the officer stopped him without probable cause.

Darrow said he installed the cameras in his Nissan Maxima after past run-ins with police. He said he was involved in a physical confrontation in 2005 with an off-duty St. Louis police officer, in a case Darrow said was later dismissed.

Darrow said he plans to meet with Uhrig today to discuss the weekend incident.

Chief Uhrig said Kuehnlein stopped to talk to Darrow because police have received reports of thefts from cars in the area. But, Uhrig said, based on his viewing of the online video, the officer acted inappropriately when he threatened to make up charges, and used a disrespectful tone and inappropriate language.

"We don't do that," Uhrig said. "Someone either violated the law or they didn't. You don't say, I'll lock you up and then come up with why afterward."

Kinda hard to maintain any credibility when one threatens absolute perjury on video tape. An officer's statement is a sworn deposition in the the eyes of the court.

If this guy had arrested me I would be filing for retrial, like yesterday. He has no claim to credibility even if every other apprehension he made was completely legitimate. He has essentially admitted to a willingness to perjure himself, the fact that this dumbass turned off his own taping device before hand shows willingness/premeditation to circumvent the law.

Any half way decent attorney could easily paint this guy as a rogue and he'd be left with no defense due to credibility issues.

The P.D. is gonna eat this one hard, and the D.A. is going to be pissed.

Are dicks to be dicks? Honestly, none. Most people who are dicks find themselves unemployed.

Also, for clarifcation on the Hooters/Stripper thing - it's part of the job, you know it is when you sign up for it. To flip out and take it out on someone would cause them to lose their job.

Listen as long as you are off duty you are as good of a person as everybody else for me. Does it go both ways? No. Every time I see someone jumping on the face of a cop they are actually trying to be more helpful, like one of those fake ass customer service guys. When I approach a cop & politely ask them for whatever they just give me this smile from above & most of them even ignore what I've said. I can start posting my experiences of being harassed, illegally handcuffed, searched, issued ticket for no reason, blah-blah-blah, but I won't(I have clean driving & criminal record after all). Like I see from the posts here people don't have really bad experiences with cops & I'm happy they don't. I'm telling you there must be something with my face, in college I used to have the same problems with lecturers. Unfortunately I'm not rich to swing money for a lawyer, otherwise all those assholes would be kissing my butt. See when I deal with a person who has "fuck you" attitude I'm trying to be a bigger person, but if that attitude doesn't change then my attitude becomes the same "fuck you". Why don't you & your co-workers come & arrest the crapbag selling drugs to 15yr olds & the whole neighborhood knows, it's so obvious goddamn it, but no you would rather take the time to harass me.

I would really like to hear about this.

First, what basis do you have for saying that you were illegally handcuffed or illegally searched.

In my experience, anyone who loudly proclaims "I know my rights" is almost certain to not know their rights. I don't know if you are one of those people or if you were truly the subject of improper conduct by police, but I would like to know the details.

Second, describe the illegal handcuffing and illegal search scenarios that you have personally experienced.

I'm neither a legal adviser nor lawyer. I never said I knew my rights, I just know that things that happened to me were morally wrong. I'm a person who doesn't give a shit about the law, I don't do things that I think are morally wrong, obviously what I think is morally wrong tuns out to be illegal too.

I was driving to work & decided to stop by at 7/11 to get a cup of tea. I leave the 7/11 & in a minute I see 3 police cars pulling me over. As soon as they approach me they ask me to get out of the car & not even letting me to get out of it myself literally dragging me out of it. They put my hands on the car & search me. I haven't said anything yet, so far I was just following orders. They tell me to sit on the pavement & put my hands where they can see one of them pointing gun at me. I tell them that I wouldn't like to sit on the dirty pavement, if possible we can throw something on the ground before I sit. They tell me to shut up & follow orders. While I'm sitting on the ground 2 other cops are searching my vehicle. After all they check my license & they tell me that there was a criminal activity in the area & that I can go. They didn't even apologize to me.

Other time I walk out of a local store, 2 cops approach me & tell me to turn around. Next thing I know I'm handcuffed, nobody tells me my rights when doing this. I'm trying to ask what's going on, they tell me to shut the hell up & sit in their car. They are taking me to the police station on the way talking to me like I'm the lowest crapbag ever, I still have no explanation why I'm being taken to the police station, one of them keeps on telling me how I'm gonna like the time I'll spend in jail. In the station they cuff me to the bench, take everything I have on me & tell me to sit tight there until they are back. I've been sitting like that for 4hrs. After they take the cuffs off & tell me that there was an illegal activity in the area & the description of the suspect matched me. So please tell me what the hell this can be called if not illegally handcuffed. Do you know how it feels to have cuffs on sitting in the police station for 4hrs with no idea why this is happening to you?

It seems to me like the term "illegal activity" is being used by cops every time they need to harass someone.

So I don't know if this legal or illegal & honestly I don't give a shit, but if it's not illegal than some laws need to be rewritten.

Cops only read you "your rights" if they are going to question you. They can detain you on suspicion (probable cause), but they'd better have a good reason. Taking you to jail without even questioning you is not a good thing. I would be pissed to, but I understand how they want you just to follow orders without question while they're doing their business. FWIW, it's not too hard to come up with PC to detain someone. Arresting them however.........
